About the Wekiva Paint Out
For over a decade, the Wekiva Paint Out has brought together acclaimed artists from across the country to paint en plein air—capturing the natural splendor of Wekiva’s lush surroundings. Visitors have the unique opportunity to watch these talented artists at work, purchase original paintings, and participate in special events such as live demonstrations, artist meet-and-greets, and the always-popular gala celebration.

How Did the Wekiva Paint Out Get Started?
The Wekiva Paint Out was founded in 2007 by philanthropist William “Big Bill” Tippit, who partnered with The Friends of Wekiva River (FOWR) to create an event that would celebrate the natural beauty of the Wekiva River through plein air painting. Initially part of the Wekiva Riverfest, the event gained popularity but faced financial challenges, leading to its cancellation in 2009. Recognizing its importance, William C. Weinaug Jr. revived the event at Wekiva Island, transforming it into a premier gathering for artists and conservationists. Today, the Wekiva Paint Out continues to flourish, showcasing the talent of nationally recognized artists while raising awareness for the preservation of the Wekiva River. Its legacy is one of artistic excellence, environmental stewardship, and community collaboration, ensuring that the beauty of this cherished natural resource is appreciated and preserved for generations to come.
