Mark Benhard
Singer · Pianist · Entertainer
Mark Benhard is a lifelong pianist and composer whose performances blend classic rock, power ballads, standards, and contemporary favorites. Influenced by artists like Journey, Styx, and Chicago, he brings a relaxed, adaptable style to Christner’s, reading the room and creating music that complements the dining experience. In addition to performing, Mark has written more than 100 original songs and is increasingly focusing on composing and music as a larger part of his life.
I try to be part of the atmosphere rather than the center of attention. People are there to enjoy dinner, have conversations and spend time together, so I want the music to be relaxing and enjoyable without taking over the room.— Mark Benhard

Q&A with Mark
How would you describe your style of music in three words?
“Relaxing, entertaining and adaptable. I like to read the room and play in a way that complements the evening rather than overpowering it.”
Is there a song you love playing because guests always sing along, smile or request it?
“‘Sweet Caroline’ is always a good one. The sing-alongs are fun because they get the crowd going, and that’s definitely one of those songs people recognize right away and want to join in on.”
If someone is visiting Christner’s for the first time, what song do you hope they’ll hear you play?
“I’d probably say ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra. Everybody seems to love that song, and it feels like it fits the atmosphere at Christner’s really well.”
What’s your favorite item on the Christner’s menu?
“The steaks are just fantastic—probably some of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve also had the ahi tuna, which is fantastic, but you really can’t go wrong with the steaks. Every one seems better than the next.”
What’s your favorite part about performing at Christner’s?
“I really enjoy the nights when people gather around the piano, request songs and start singing along. I’m not trying to be the center of attention, but when the room gets engaged and people are having a great time together, that makes it especially fun.”
A lot of it comes down to reading the room. Every crowd is different, so I’ll move between classics, power ballads, classic rock and more contemporary songs depending on what people are responding to.— Mark Benhard

The most fun nights are when the room is full and people really start engaging with the music. Guests will sit around the piano, request songs and start singing along, and that’s when the whole room feels connected.— Mark Benhard
